I’ve been gallivanting around Europe and ended up working from our London Office for a week. The night before I left was a little crazy so Friday lunch needed to be a soul restoring affair. Thank god for Billy and the Chicks!
Firstly, I love the fact that this restaurant sounds more like a band name. Located just off Soho square, Billy and the Chicks primarily does take away fried chicken but there is a small dining area. Given that it was a little chilly and we were there early we decided to eat in.
The menu at Billy and the Chicks is pretty simple. Fried chicken burger, fried chicken, chips, mac n cheese, BBQ sauce. Given the slight hang overs, we opted for friend chicken burgers, chips, mac n’ cheese and BBQ sauce – as well as a few soft drinks to help settle the stomaches before the food 🙂
Billy and the Chicks is a pretty basic place. Following in the foot steps of Meat Liquor, it’s served on trays and rolls of kitchen towel on the tables for hands.
By the time our meals arrive, the place is packed and there’s a line out the door.
As I said, pretty simple – all served on a metal tray and all served the same way as the take out. It smelt amazing and I was lucky that I even got this photo.
The burger was gorgeous. The chicken breast was crispy on the outside but melt in the mouth juicy on the inside. The coating was lightly spiced, which I love, and meant that I didn’t have to add chilli sauce to the burger. The bun was soft but not as sweet as a brioche was was grand. I also love the miracle whip. I have no idea what’s in it – though there’s probably a lot of mayonnaise – but it’s creamy and slightly sweet. It makes for a perfect, crunchy, yummy hang over cure.
The chips and BBQ sauce were as you would expect. Crispy, with lots of little over cooked crunchy bits. The surprise though was the Mac n Cheese. I love Mac n Cheese and if I can find an excuse to order it, I will. This wasn’t my favourite mac n cheese if I’m honest. It was creamy and cheesey but I always like it when it has a little crunch on top. Still, it was worth it.
If you even find yourself looking for a lunch to cure all #mediathursday evils, I cannot recommend Billy and the Chicks more. Make sure you arrive early though, even if you need to take it with you back to bed.
